bastante inesperadamente &#8211; que a pr\u00f3pria forma ancestral tinha que acumular muta\u00e7\u00f5es espec\u00edficas, neutras, <strong>n\u00e3o selecionadas<\/strong> e improv\u00e1veis \u200b\u200bpara se transformar na prote\u00edna atual.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Em coment\u00e1rios anteriores sobre o trabalho de Thornton, propus algo que chamei de &#8220;Lei de Dollo Tempo-Sim\u00e9trica&#8221; (LDTS).\u00a0<sup>3, 8<\/sup>\u00a0Resumidamente, isso significa que, como a sele\u00e7\u00e3o natural favorece na prote\u00edna a sua fun\u00e7\u00e3o atual (n\u00e3o em alguma suposta fun\u00e7\u00e3o futura ou do passado), ser\u00e1 muito dif\u00edcil alterar a fun\u00e7\u00e3o atual de uma prote\u00edna para outra por muta\u00e7\u00e3o aleat\u00f3ria e sele\u00e7\u00e3o natural.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Mas havia um fator n\u00e3o examinado que poderia ter complicado o trabalho de Thornton e colocado em quest\u00e3o a LDTS.\u00a0E se houvesse um grande n\u00famero de potenciais muta\u00e7\u00f5es neutras que poderiam ser caminhos evolutivos para a segunda prote\u00edna?\u00a0A prote\u00edna moderna que ocorre nos vertebrados terrestres tem mudan\u00e7as neutras muito particulares que lhe permitiram adquirir sua fun\u00e7\u00e3o atual, mas talvez tenha sido um acidente hist\u00f3rico.\u00a0Talvez qualquer um de um grande n\u00famero de altera\u00e7\u00f5es evolutivas pudesse ter feito o mesmo trabalho, e as mudan\u00e7as particulares que ocorreram historicamente n\u00e3o eram t\u00e3o especiais.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Essa \u00e9 a quest\u00e3o que o grupo de Thornton examinou em\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/24930765\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">seu artigo atual<\/a>.\u00a0Usando t\u00e9cnicas experimentais inteligentes, eles testaram milhares de poss\u00edveis muta\u00e7\u00f5es alternativas.\u00a0A linha inferior \u00e9 que\u00a0<em>nenhuma<\/em>\u00a0dessas varia\u00e7\u00f5es poderiam tomar o lugar das muta\u00e7\u00f5es neutras que supostamente aconteceram.\u00a0A conclus\u00e3o do artigo \u00e9 que, do grande n\u00famero de caminhos que a evolu\u00e7\u00e3o aleat\u00f3ria poderia ter tomado, na melhor das hip\u00f3teses, apenas os extremamente raros poderiam levar \u00e0 atual prote\u00edna funcional.<\/p>\n<p>Alguns pensamentos:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">O laborat\u00f3rio de Thornton faz um \u00f3timo trabalho.\u00a0Este \u00e9 um dos programas de evolu\u00e7\u00e3o experimental mais cuidadosos, minuciosos e meticulosos em opera\u00e7\u00e3o hoje em dia.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">O n\u00edvel em que o grupo de Thornton aborda a evolu\u00e7\u00e3o &#8211; no n\u00edvel dos res\u00edduos de amino\u00e1cidos e considerando muitas muta\u00e7\u00f5es poss\u00edveis &#8211; \u00e9 o\u00a0n\u00edvel\u00a0<em>m\u00ednimo<\/em>\u00a0de detalhes necess\u00e1rio para tirar conclus\u00f5es ainda moderadamente firmes sobre a capacidade dos processos aleat\u00f3rios mais a sele\u00e7\u00e3o para explicar a vida.\u00a0Na natureza, a evolu\u00e7\u00e3o ocorre no n\u00edvel molecular de muta\u00e7\u00f5es individuais espec\u00edficas, por isso \u00e9 preciso procurar avaliar poss\u00edveis caminhos evolutivos.\u00a0Estudos com menos detalhes podem dizer muito pouco sobre o assunto.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Por melhor que seja, no entanto, o trabalho de Thornton ainda n\u00e3o aborda muitos fatores biol\u00f3gicos importantes que seriam cr\u00edticos na hist\u00f3ria da vida, como o grau de press\u00e3o seletiva ou o efeito de outros genes no sistema experimental.\u00a0Portanto, a evolu\u00e7\u00e3o aleat\u00f3ria poderia ser muito\u00a0<em>menos<\/em>\u00a0eficaz do que ele demonstrou.\u00a0(N\u00e3o pode ser mais eficaz, porque os fatores biol\u00f3gicos depender\u00e3o das propriedades moleculares que ele estudou.
